New Monarch Makes a Friend (Third Place: Adult People)
My granddaughter is taking a selfie of this just-opened Monarch butterfly as it stretches and tries out its new wings. Her aunt raises Monarchs each year and has children release them. Reduced backyard habitat has resulted in a decline of this iconic butterfly in Minnesota. The current survival rate of monarchs outdoors is estimated to be a lowly 5% or less. Tell your friends to grow milkweed as part of their gardens or start a butterfly garden.
