Wood Turtle Nesting Intervention Project
Radio-tagging communal nesting wood turtles after they have laid their eggs and protecting 20 nests clustered in a small sandy hill on Damian's Prairie along Hay Creek just before it enters the Namekagon River by placing a solar-powered electric predator protection fence around the communal nesting site, last year became one of only two sites in the four state (MI, WI, MN, IA) intervention project that produced viable young, and this year may put as many as 100-200 new wood turtle hatchlings back into the Namekagon River.
